Delta-8 THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. In fact, Delta-8 THC is the second most common type of psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, with THC being the most commonly occurring one. Delta-8 THC makes up between 20-25% of the cannabinoid makeup of many strains and varieties of cannabis plants and can produce some different effects from those of THC when it interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). But how can you know if Delta-8 THC has psychoactive effects? How does this type of THC affect your brain?

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC also known as Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol is a naturally occurring chemical compound called a cannabinoid which is found in small traces in hemp and cannabis (marijuana) plants. Delta-8 THC popularity is on the rise, and you can find it almost anywhere and everywhere from boutique weed dispensaries to convenience store and shops.

The facts about delta-8 THC

Although there’s a lack of research and evidence when it comes to Delta-8 impact on your overall health but Delta-8 THC has been used for some medical purposes, here are some them:  calm nausea, boost appetite, relief pain, boost mental health, prevent vomiting during cancer treatment.

However some researchers say these benefits have not been justified or researched enough and its effects might vary.

Psychological Effects

Delta-8 THC has psychoactive effects which is similar to delta-9 THC for example, the component that is responsible for the “high feeling” people may get from using cannabis. The FDA is aware of media reports of delta-8 THC products giving consumers the “high feeling”.  The FDA is also concerned that delta-8 THC products likely expose consumers to much higher levels of the substance than are always occurring in hemp cannabis raw extracts. In conclusion, historical use of cannabis cannot be relied upon in establishing a level of safety for these products in humans.
